Unfortunately, there was no IZOD IndyCar Series race this past weekend. One question seemed to weigh heavy on the new media department’s mind- What would our loyal race fans do?!

For the sake of being nosy, we asked them straight up. The response was overwhelming! Both our Facebook page and Twitter thread began to pile up with feedback.  A grand total of 258 Facebook comments and endless tweets later we had some idea of what our fans were up to. The bulk of the comments revolved around racing-Duh. There were some big races this weekend that were not part of the IndyCar Series, for instance, the Formula 1 race in Montreal and the infamous LeMans 24 Hour Race

The technology behind IndyCar

We asked, you answered.

This weekend also kick started the FIFA World Cup, which many of our fans mentioned they would be watching. In tune with this event, we posted a video of the IZOD IndyCar Drivers weighing in on the World Cup and soccer in general. This sparked a new topic of interest on our Facebook page: Soccer v. Racing. I’m not sure which sport ended up reigning supreme, but I think this debate showed just how dedicated our fans are to racing and how perceptive they are to the content we have been producing for them.

We want to put you in the driver's seat!

The number of responses we received made me realize how hungry IndyCar fans were for more interaction. They craved the inside scoop on anything and everything IndyCar, especially when there was no race to watch. That is why I strongly encourage these fans to become a member of IndyCar Nation. IndyCar Nation is the best online resource for everything IndyCar.

IndyCar Nation offers:

  • Fan Forums- so you can interact with other race fanatics
  • Fantasy Racing- meaning you can sit in a virtual driver’s seat and race against other fans
  • Live Streaming- when there is a race, you can watch it LIVE complete with timing and scoring
  • Plus: sweepstakes, other games, multimedia and more!

You can become a member by signing up on indycarnation.indycar.com.  Hopefully this “fix” will help to cure your no-race-weekend-blues the next time they come around. Thank goodness the Iowa Corn Indy 250 Race is this weekend!

Does that steering wheel have an “Error” dial? Why would it need to be a dial and not just a light or something. I need to figure out what that thing does.

It is March 15, 2013, just a week from race 1 of the season in the city that I live in, Saint Petersburg, Florida, and when I try to get started with Fantasy Racing for the season it appears as if it has vanished completely. Am I missing something?
