Flickr and IndyCar Teams

I usually like to start the week with a blog post about Flickr. In this post, I thought I’d do some research and let you know if any of our IndyCar teams are using the Flickr world. We’re not the only ones that take lots of photographs over the course of a season and I found a few examples for you. Check out what some of the teams are doing.

KV Racing Technology, is incredibly active on Flickr with hundreds of images. Here’s a cool shot of E.J. Viso getting fitted in the new 2012 Safety Cell from Dallara. They cover all kinds of things through imagery.

Vision Racing has a good variety of images on their Flickr account, including Ed Carpenter at a Butler University football game. They also have pit lane action, press conferences and pics of Fuzzy’s vodka.

Sarah Fisher Racing also provides behind-the-scenes glimpses into the life of a race team. The images on their Flickr account show a race team with a distinct personality and a sense of humor.

Unfortunately it was hard to find more teams on Flickr. Both Andretti Autosport and Conquest Racing have some images – but have not uploaded to Flickr in some time. It looks like a couple of other teams have at least reserved a Flickr username.

I hope teams are more active on Flickr in 2011. It’s a great online resource for dumping content. We experimented frequently with Flickr this past season and were impressed with the results. We discovered a new web audience that connected with the images we uploaded. We found that Flickr users loved our on-track action shots, drivers in pit lanes, crews working on the cars, pics of parties and much, much more. We were simply revealing life at an IndyCar race.

The teams have a different story to tell through photography. They are more like families. They are close knit, travel constantly, hard working, competitive, and have to endure the ups and downs of a challenging season. Who wouldn’t want to see that on Flickr?

I can’t believe that Sarah hasn’t cashed that big check yet. ;)

Seriously, though, I really appreciate the work that KVRT shares on Flickr. Their photog does good work, and they always have some excellent images from angles and of subjects that you don’t normally see from others at the track.

Whoever is writing this stuff should learn some basic grammar. “We’re not the only one’s that takes a lot of photographs…”

Should be We’re not the only ones who take a lot of…”

And: “Unfortunately it was hard to find more team’s on Flickr.”

Should be: teams, not “team’s” which is possessive case.

Flickr is a great place for photographers. Whatever the subject may be. There is never a bad word spoken, which is unheard of in the internet community. As a motorsport photographer who has shot a wide variety of events, I particularly enjoy following my photo stats. I can see what is popular and what is not. I may be considered a traitor by some for the position I have secured for my self in the world of racing, but had it not been for the open nature of the Indycar paddock, I would have never gained the experience and skills necessary for the job I have now as an “official photographer” for a race team. I owe it all to IndyCar, their drivers, Team Penske, and Dreyer and Reinbold. I am living, breathing proof that dreams do come true. ” Out of no way, a way will be made.” Doug knows my story very well (LOL), and one of the great pleasures I get is seeing how far and how fast he is taking his own endeavor. Endeavor to persevere.
