Dreams of becoming a pro athlete like our childhood hero played out in various scenarios – whether hitting that walk-home run in the seventh game of the World Series to hitting the winning shot in the NCAA title game to drinking the milk after winning the Indianapolis 500.

Do athletes we idolize have someone they considered to be extra special when they were youngsters?

In “Sports Idols’ Idols,” nearly 150 past and present athletes share stories and insights with author Scott Lynn about their childhood heroes, special moments in their lives and careers and what it means to them to serve as idols for the next generation of sports fans.

Indy car greats Mario Andretti, Michael Andretti, Dario Franchitti, A.J. Foyt, Bobby Rahal, Al Unser, Al Unser Jr. and Bobby Unser – along with current stars Marco Andretti, Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon, Jack Hawksworth, James Hinchcliffe, Simon Pagenaud, Will Power and Graham Rahal – contributed to the 584-page book.

Other sports personalities interviewed by Lynn, a veteran sportscaster from Illinois, include Jerry West, Jack Ramsay, Nancy Lopez, Phil Esposito, Dale Murphy, Don Larsen, Yogi Berra, Annika Sorenstam and Alberto Salazar.

“Sports Idols’ Idols” is available at Amazon.com and AuthorHouse.com.
