Personally, one of my favorite duties is sorting through the general email inbox. It’s a wide variety, from requests for drivers’ personal addresses to friendly suggestions on how to make the series better. And something that I hear a lot is that our fan group, INDYCAR Nation, is doing an awesome job at bringing fans closer to the action.

One of the most exciting things about the IZOD IndyCar Series is the up close and personal relationship it has with fans, like the all-driver autograph sessions at each race. You certainly don’t get that in any other professional sports league. INDYCAR Nation is a free source of fan news including weekly e-newsletters and exclusive editorials on the website. Sign up for FREE and you can also access Fantasy Racing and take advantage of coupons and discounts from our sponsors.

But the best value on the planet is the INDYCAR Nation Champion level…a.k.a. the INDYCAR fan club. Joining is like getting courtside seats all the time! Champion members pay a low price of $34.95/year and are exposed to a multitude of amazing experiences—including free credentials, travel packages, two-seater rides and personal meet-n’-greets with drivers.

Dario Franchiti at ICN Member event

This Friday in New Hampshire, for example, INDYCAR Nation Champion members have an opportunity to grab a beverage and hang out with all three Penske drivers—Helio Castroneves, Ryan Briscoe and Will Power—at Draft’s Sports Bar and Grill. You wouldn’t even get that close to Dwight Howard’s sweat band unless you sold all your possessions.

We’ve heard there is a brand new Champion member who joined this week. Not only has he never been to an INDYCAR race, this will be his first motorsports race EVER. He joined the fan club so he could be eligible for pace car rides and pre-race access, but he ended up winning a free 2-seater ride on Saturday. Talk about the membership paying for itself in one click!

Happy New Year everyone!

We’re all about the 2011 season, thinking about new things we can do online. We’re working on a lot of different digital projects including a revamped IndyCar Nation section to IndyCar.com, a new mobile site, new content and more interaction with our fans – You!

One thing we offer a lot of online is video. Our YouTube Channel has over 1200 videos. Here’s Danica Patrick talking about technology in one of our videos from 2010.  My point is, we produce a lot of video, and that won’t stop.

For 2011, we want to try a new video series, called 11 in 11. We’re going to try and ask all of the 2011 IZOD IndyCar drivers the same 11 questions over the course of the season.

Here’s where you become involved. We want you to come up with the selection of questions that would apply to any of our drivers.

Leave your general question as a comment on this blog. Or send it to us via Twitter (@IndyCar) or through our Facebook page. We need your suggestions by next Monday, January 10. Hey, we move fast.

We’ll pick the final 11 for 2011 and get started soon. You can expect to see these videos throughout the season and we promise to try and cover all of the drivers.

Ask away…

What are your off-season plans?

What do you do in the off-season? Do you watch re-runs of all the 2010 races? Start planning for the 2011 season? Work on your Fantasy Racing team? We want to know.

The 2010 IZOD IndyCar Champions

It’s only been a few days since Dario Franchitti won the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series Championship…but I’ve already noticed some interesting online withdrawal. @IndyCarNation follower @NDcarTwit tweeted: “Think everyone should take a month off, and then let’s go again! Can’t wait till next Spring for more IndyCar racing!”

On our Facebook page, Wendy Gilbert wrote, “I’m in withdrawal already. Can’t wait until March 27th!” And another Facebook IndyCar fan – Leoth Wade, said” I’m ready now for the 2011 Indy 500. I can’t wait for it. Thanks to IZOD for making 2010 a great season.”

You really like your IndyCar racing.

Unfortunately, there was no IZOD IndyCar Series race this past weekend. One question seemed to weigh heavy on the new media department’s mind- What would our loyal race fans do?!

For the sake of being nosy, we asked them straight up. The response was overwhelming! Both our Facebook page and Twitter thread began to pile up with feedback.  A grand total of 258 Facebook comments and endless tweets later we had some idea of what our fans were up to. The bulk of the comments revolved around racing-Duh. There were some big races this weekend that were not part of the IndyCar Series, for instance, the Formula 1 race in Montreal and the infamous LeMans 24 Hour Race
