Getting Connected to #IndyCar

Posted on: March 17, 2014 | Comments(11) | Fans, New Media | By: Cassie

We’re rounding the fourth turn of the off-season, and the start of 2014 IndyCar action is in our sights. With the announcement of Verizon as title sponsor, the return of drivers like Jacques Villenueve and the debut of drivers like Kurt Busch, this season is shaping up to be an exciting one. Don’t miss out on a second of it!

Below is a list of the best ways to stay connected to everything IndyCar related in the coming months.

iOS Devices | Android Devices

  • Follow @IndyCar on Twitter – We’ll provide live updates during races, insider news on teams and driver announcements as well as tons of fun photos and videos
  • Use #IndyCar – Using the official hash tag will keep you in the IndyCar conversation all season long. If you fall behind on your IndyCar news, just search the hash tag on Twitter and read up on the latest info
  • Like IndyCar Series on Facebook – Join over 200,000 other IndyCar fans on Facebook. We’ll share YouTube videos, race results, behind-the-scenes photos and more
  • Follow @indycar on Instagram – Photos from pit lane, the garages, press conferences and anywhere else the fastest drivers in the world might be
  • Visit IndyCar.com – This is the IndyCar information hub! Daily news articles, driver stats, the season schedule, TV tune-in information and so much more

These are your best bet to being the first to know any and all IndyCar information. How do you usually get your IndyCar news?

Maybe it was the countless hours put in during the month of May and the Indianapolis 500, or maybe it comes down to arriving at Texas and realizing we’re at the seventh race of the season but I’m ready for a change and am sure fans are too.

A change of what, you ask?

Our Facebook profile picture.

I love our IZOD IndyCar Series logo but, and stick with me on this one, the INDYCAR Facebook page is really a page for our fans, not us. Sure, we share information, stories, pictures, and videos, but what keeps Facebook.com/IndyCar going are great fan comments, fans answering other fan questions, and so many “likes” I’ve stopped counting at this point.

Enter the INDYCAR Facebook Fan of the Week for the June races at Texas, Milwaukee, and Iowa. Each race weekend, fans can share photos of themselves at an INDYCAR race or with their favorite INDYCAR drivers, and a quick sentence or two about why they deserve to be the Fan of the Week to other fans.

We’ll grab the photos, create a special fan photo gallery on our Facebook page, and then ask all of our Facebook fans to check out the photos and help determine the Fan of the Week on the Monday following each of the next three races.

What’s in it for you?

Your picture becomes the INDYCAR Facebook profile picture for the week following the race, identifying you as the INDYCAR Fan of the Week, and immediately spicing up our Facebook page with the real face of our page: our fans.

So get started now, head over to our Facebook page and start sharing your very best fan photos and why you think you should be our Facebook Fan of the Week!

Big news today at the IZOD IndyCar Series as we have finally succeeded in obtaining the Twitter account that our fans have been asking for, @IndyCar. Today marks an exciting change from our days with @IndyCarNation as we will go forward with an increased focus on creating better connections with our fans and followers. What does this mean? It means post to our Facebook wall, Tweet at us, leave a comment under our videos and blogs and expect to hear back answers to your questions and even more content that you approve of and ‘like.’

Our previous Twitter followers will notice that Twitter has automatically updated your following list to reflect the change. In the future, all you will need to do is make sure to tag @IndyCar when mentioning us in your Tweets (and let’s face it, saving six characters when you only have 140 to work with actually IS a BIG deal!!).

Anyone that is not currently following us on Twitter, now is the time to start. Add @IndyCar to receive exciting updates, exclusive photos and videos, and a special offers and giveaways from our corporate partners. As part of the announcement, the 250th user to retweet our new Twitter handle will receive an exclusive IndyCar prize pack. Stay tuned to hear who the winner is…

You may have noticed a lot more online activity from IndyCar this season. We’ve launched a new IndyCar site, kept up on Facebook, continued pumping out videos, became more active on Twitter, jumped into the image world of Flickr and we’ve been blogging, blogging, blogging.

It’s the beginning of us shaping a new online experience for our fans and providing more in-depth access to IndyCar – a sport we obviously love. And yesterday, our friends at nomee launched an IZOD IndyCar Series iPad app. Pretty cool (This link, will take you directly to the iTunes store).

Part of our new online effort involves working more closely with our partners to create richer opportunities for our fans, develop clear online strategies and honestly, work with/learn from/and support our great team sponsors, like Go Daddy.

Danica of course...
